Yes another FNG. I got into hunting a little later in life than some folks. When I was a teenager and the age to learn we lived far away from good hunting and my grandad who would have loved to teach me. I moved through life working as a chef and later a butcher, eventually landing back in TX. I’ve done some white hunting here, which consists of a blind near a feeder. I really enjoy harvesting food more than collecting trophies. Nothing wrong with that, but not my bag.

Now I want to travel west and get in the wilderness and hunt outside my comfort zone. I have a few rifles that would fit the bill, but don’t really know where to start otherwise.

A guided hunt probably makes sense. Maybe? I’d really like to get a cow elk and fill a cooler for a while.

How did you get started and do you have tips?

As the self-appointed chairman of the welcoming committee, it is my privilege to extend a laurel, and hearty handshake (virtual, of course) to our new TX member.
