Hi all. Great group of forums you have here. Already been digging the gear discussions on bags, equipment modifications and homebrew accessories. Look forward to learning and maybe contributing in the future.
After hunting whitetails for 25 years I was a last minute addition to a group going base-camp style DIY Elk hunting in Colorado this year. I'd been trying to go out for several years but it wasn't happening. I found out 4th of July that some friends were going and within a few days I had signed on and got busy cramming a years worth of planning into 7 weeks. My hunting partner and I were the rookies on the trip, the other two guys had been there twice before. We got the chance to make all the mistakes, learned how to do a death march up the mountain and a controlled fall down the mountain in pitch black darkness. We saw some elk, called to some (no bugles) and my partner had a shot on a cow the last day. In short we had a blast. Now I'm trying to figure out when i can get back!
