New guy reporting in.

I've been lurking for a bit and it seems I keep coming back for more so I figured I jump in.

My father started taking me hunting when I was a little boy. Thankfully I was old enough that I still have those memories. He passed when I was 10, however I still had the fever. I read every gun & hunting book I could get my hands on and spent every opportunity I could to shoot or "hunt". I was 15 when my girlfriends Dad took me deer hunting for the first time. I killed a doe with my mothers Marlin 336C in .30-30. That man is still "Dad" and the young lady is my wife.

Dad is 87 and is in a retirement home. I have custody of his 257 Roberts that he has used since 1971. I worked up a handload for it last year since good ammo for that rifle is hard to find. It still shoots better than most that get behind it can, me included.

I am a fan of the 1/4" bean flippers. I have a couple .25-06's, my own and Dad's 257's. I also have a 300WSM that I have started to play with. Yes, the 300 is for that eventual bucket list trip out west. That isn't the only reason for it, heck I liked it and wanted to compare it to what I knew about the 300WM.

My travels with the company I worked for included a couple years in Montana. Dad gummed heaven on earth right there. Still a green as grass flatlander when it comes to 'out west', however I did manage to take a nice 4x3 muley. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

I spent 12 years in Uncle Sam's gun club, aka the United States Marine Corps. It took me a bit to learn to shoot the service rifle but when I did I managed 8th award rifle expert as well as 16th Silver in the Western Division National Match.

Lots of great information here and many are way above my head in experience and knowledge and that is why I am here. I've found you don't learn anything at the top looking down.

Time to shut up and jump in the deep end.
