Flying With a Large Pack

I am looking for advice regarding large backpacks as checked luggage. I have always flown using a large duffel, my gun case along with a small daypack as a carry-on. What should I expect for and prepare for if I would like to use my V-90 pack as a checked bag? Do the straps and belts get damaged or snagged? Should I remove them? I wonder if the aluminum stays would get bent up? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Put it into a contractors bag and seal it with a heavy duty zip tie.

I just throw my pack into a heavy duty contractor bag. I never had any problems using this method, everything stays contained and my pack has never gotten damaged or dirty during the transport. I always carry an extra contractor bag for the flight back home also. I'll be flying out on Saturday, hope I didn't just jinx myself.
