I use a utility knife to scrape off my fletching glue when I am replacing my fletching. Is this a bad thing to do on a carbon arrow?

I want to add arrow cresting wraps to my arrow shafts to increase the chances of me finding my arrows when they aren't in the target (never really happens). Is there anything wrong with putting cresting wraps just in front of the fletching so as to still be able to scrape the fletching glue off without damaging the wrap, or is this just another stupid thought of mine?

If you're just scraping off fletching and wraps, it's fine, even in carbon. Don't sit there and whittle on your arrow to get all the residue off and you'll be ok. Once the meat is off, clean the shaft and residue off with acetone.

As far as putting the wraps ahead of the fletchings, you can do that....you can fletch arrows however you like. I like full wraps because I think the fletches adhere better and wraps are cheap on ebay.

Just spinning them a few inches above a low flame on the stove for 4-5 seconds will allow you to peel the wraps off with no residue.

Some of the benefit of using wraps is to alleviate the potential for damaging the shafts by removing fletching.

You can just keep using your utility knife and as suggested finish it off with some acetone or laquer thinner.

If you do a lot of arrows, the Zip Strip tool is really handy.

You can put the wraps anywhere on the arrow. The nice thing about putting them below your fletching is it makes it easier to replace a single vane if you ever damage one. If you fletch on top of the wraps you end up having to take the whole wrap off and replace all 3 vanes just to fix one.

Thanks for the replies, it looks like I am good to go. I typically only replace one fletching at a time, it is never the case that all of them are ready to be replaced at the same time. So I see no issues from your replies on putting the wrap just down the shaft from the fletching to accomodate that with out damaging the wrap or having to replace everything at the same time. Thanks again.
