First SS Rifle

Shot this three shell group at 200 yards using a rem 700 in 30/06 while working up a load for my le hunt. Impressive for a sportster bdl

Realunlucky , thats a fine group and Remington has produced tens of thousands of rifles that shoot just as well. They have also produced tens of thousands of rifles that patern like a shotgun. Tikka and Savage produce tens of thousands of rifles that shoot like yours but only a few that pattern like shotguns. If I'm putting my dollars down I want the best possible odds that I'm getting my money's worth not putting it on a roulette wheel. Remington is not really a gun company any more. It's a financial investment vehicle thats persona is a gun company. Cerbus is just wringing all the equity out and riding the boom until they think the facade is going to crumble. They are already looking to unload Freedom Group so that tells me that the company is hollowed out.
I am also worried about Savage as they were recently sold to ATK . ATK's other holdings are decent quality companies but not spectacular leaders of quality and value. RCBS ..yawn , Speer...yawn , Alliant powders...yawn.
There's a lot I don't like about the Tikkas but they are probably the safest value right now strait out of the box just due to their stable management with a track record of delivering quality and value.

Can I use a Talley one piece low with the T3 with Leupold vx2 3x9x40?

I would just use the rings that come with the Tikka for that scope. If I'm putting a heavier scope on, I use Seekins but you don't need them for that setup.

I think you will be happy with the Tikka. I like Remington too, but I don't think they are half the rifle of the Tikka when stock. I get asked all the time which trigger I used in my Tikka rifles and people are always surprised when I tell them it's stock. I think the Tikkas are more than a pound lighter too if I remember right.

Good luck and make sure you post pics when you get it setup!

I would bet that the lows will fit based on how much room there was around my 32mm Zeiss (my Google fu also agrees).

I walked into the local dealer with my rifle and scope and they helped me test fit rings till we found the ones that fit right for me. As a bonus they installed and bore sighted the rifle with the ring purchase. While they worked on that I managed to find a couple boxes of ammo and a ball cap for the wife. So I suppose their hospitality paid off in additional sales.

I have seen a few pictures of tikka ring failures and personally wouldn't use them. I doubt that they will fail from normal range sessions but I have very little confidence that they would handle a fall on the rocks at all.

lots of praise for the tikka but too much plastic for me. would rather have sako 85 hunter in ss or my first choice winchester. every hardware store in the northland will have 30-06 ammo if they have anything. i reload so a moot point. 243 is all the hp needed for whitetail in the us. save your money and shoulder. whatever you get remember stainless steel in rifle talk may just be the color. true stainless will not be attracted to a magnet. most rifles called stainless will turn brown if you think it will not rust
