Very interesting. I figured it was a well known thing and I was just missing it. I can see the slanted fl as well as the mountain and sun things but neither strike me as the obvious solution. Obviously if that is what he told you then I cannot argue. I guess I just feel a little better in the fact that I wasn't missing what I assumed was an obvious symbol.
