I purchased on InReach Mini, paired that with the Earthmate App on my iPhone 8, and used OnX. Yeah it "sucked" taking my gloves off for 2-3 minutes or less to use a touchscreen with a waterproof case. Truly not a big deal. But what do I know.
Phone battery did great but drained quickly on one instance, But that was when I got cell service on top of a point at 10,500 ft and called my wife. Went a long time without charge prior on Airplane mode. Thankfully, I had battery packs to recharge.
Personally, I wouldn't drop $600 for a dedicated GPS. I liked that I could use my phone to text via the InReach, and had SOS as well. Liked being able to use OnX due to familiarity and being able to save maps prior to my trip. Think I paid around $300 for my Mini from Amazon. With service an additional $75 and can start/stop service however you choose.
