Anyone using the field optics research tripod adapter for glassing from a tripod? How is it? Looks like it could be a little wobbly but I could be wrong.

just ordered mine a couple weeks ago. I have about 5 hours behind my 15's on this adaptor and I like it. It's a pain in the butt to release the adaptor from the receiver nut for the first couple times, but it loosens up quickly. Very easy to use now and stable. For the price you can't beat it.

It's awesome. It wobbles when you wobble it but when you use it, it is fine.

I took the base of mine to the belt sander and made a dovetail that fits my Arca-swiss type ball head so I have no need for a QD plate. I think it will work out of the box with Manfrotto QD systems.

Edit: In mine the small screws wanted to come loose, I don't know if that was from the vibration on the sander. I put lock tight on mine and they are good to go now.

Yes it can move slightly side to side but I have never noticed it while glassing. I've tried most adapter styles and like this one the most

Yea, it works great. Yes there is a bit of play in the system, but its really not enough to be bad. I also just grinded the base down so it fits right onto my OD panhead without another adaptor.

Works pretty good, I think I get vibration in the wind from the slop. Not really a big deal with the 8 and 10 Binos, but anoying with 15s for me.

The adaptor comes w/ nylon spacers so you can have the receiver nut tight with still having the slot vertical for the adaptor to fit into. I just crank that baby down and then crank a little more until the slot is vertical, and it gets rid of the play because of all the tension on your threads. I tried the outdoorsman adaptor at our local shop and I thought it had a lot more play in it, maybe i didn't tighten it down enough I don't know.

I got another nut for my 10s so I can swap back and forth quick when I'm switching between glassing near and far.

Here is a link to a review S&S Archery did on it. They sell it so it might be slightly biased but I feel like he gave it an honest review. It's interesting someone mentioned they thought it was more solid than the Outdoorsmans adapter. Everything I've read has told me that one is more stable so that was the route I had planned on going but this has me questioning it. I'd certainly prefer the cheaper price of the Field Optics adapter. Plus it's good to know I can grind it down to fit an Arca-Swiss head. Thanks for the info. guys!
