Well let's try this out.
Have our annual Texas hog hunt planned for next March. Going to take a couple of friends down, one has been before the other is a retired coal miner- his father in law. We hunt our family's place, low fence about 3,00 acres. Spot and stalk harvests. We also enjoy a little night hunting on occasion. When needed we will run some cage type and corral traps.

Some past piggies taken.

Post up your hunt plans and harvests on this thread.

Trapped 70 so far in 2019. We pretty much stopped shooting them so they'll get comfortable coming to bait. Sell some, eat some.

The pigs abound on the public land I hunt here in SC. I have shot "at" some pigs with a pistol while scouting, killed some piglets also while scouting. I have yet to see any while rifle hunting. During Bow Season last year, had a dozen or more come down wind and follow my tracks to their red oak feed tree only to catch my wind and immediately run the opposite direction.

Anyone have any issues punching through the scapula with a 125 grain fixed head? I know ideally not to "aim" there. Shooting a 400 grain arrow with aforementioned head at 70# draw.

Really wanting to smoke some hams, figuratively and literally

I've shot Hundreds of hogs with my bow. If you want to improve your penetration bump up your arrow weight. 450- 550gr is a good range. The heavier arrow takes the twang out of your bow. The 543 gr arrow in my 45# recurve blows right through a 120# hogs scapula....a 300#'er is a different story.

We've got family land to hunt and they trap some areas and leave some for hunting. They mainly trap the hogs in the ag fields and hay fields. Hunters help offset the damage costs they incur from the rooting.
Nice trap set up, looks like it would hold a sounder or two .

Noble Foundation developed this Boar Buster trap. It uses cell trail cams and it's activated from your phone so you don't trap turkeys or deer.

Where I hunt the hogs are very shy of corral type traps. I know a guy that gradually built a corral trap over about 10 days putting up a new section and bait every few days. The hogs did get comfortable with it and when he finally activated the gate he caught 40 which is a good haul.

The family has been working with the Noble Found. for years. Great org.! They helped with the first management plan for deer on the ranch.
Hogs have not been to shy of the corral traps used on the place so far. They also run several of these:

117510

They all have guillotine type doors.
Are you in Love Co. by any chance ? The family place is in Cooke Co. right on the Red.
My Brother in law has had very good corral trapping success in spots, once took in over 120 hogs in 4 sets of the same trap over 1 month.

We looked at the Noble Foundation trap hard and went with one out of Arkansas called Game Changer instead. Ours folds up into its own trailer really nicely so we can move it around and set up in new places. Same concept though with the phone activated doors. Get them used to a bait spot and set up the trap around it. Sometimes it takes a couple weeks for them to get comfortable, sometimes they all pile in the first night.

Here's a few from Germany. If anyone stateside finds themselves with some free time around Ramstein AFB in Germany and wants to get out in the woods let me know and we might be able to work something out.
