Hey everyone, So I'm looking to upgrade my safety harness for stand hunting and I'm curious what's everyones go to? I currently have a simple muddy one and it definitely does the job. I just have a feeling there is something better out there. thinking just grab a saddle and use that? Thanks in advance

I started using a rock climbing "gym" harness two years ago and could never go back to a regular harness. Check out "traditional bowhunting and wilderness podcast" on Youtube. That's where I got the idea and he shows exactly how to set it up. Requires a bit of tinkering but totally worth it in the end.

I was looking at these actually! just trying to figure out the linesman belt attachment.

One thing to consider when making your choice is -as real trophy whitetail hunters know- how quiet the buckles are. We sneak into tree stands located close to bedding areas and thickets and bedded deer are sometimes not far away. Leaves or grass rustling seems to be of no concern to the deer but the metal sound of buckles snapping shut will definitely get a trophy on his feet and moving away from the sound. You will never know he “was” there. I use an older Muddy with the pass through waist strap and leg straps. Details matter

I use a Black Diamond Vario Speed harness and love it. The full body harnesses are dangerous in hunting situations.

Agree, this harness is great that it will layer over most anything even bulky late season layers.

Do a fall test from a platform with RC harness vs a a three point harness and you will never use a three point harness for treestand hunting

Anyone have experience with dryad killdeer? it's essentially a rock climbing harness but it has professionally sewn in linesman belt loops. a little more money but I'm not sure I'm comfortable sewing on loops lol

Watched a few YouTube vids on it. Looks like one of the better options. The price is only downside.

Don’t understand how you could not use a full body harness and make sure you have access to the suspension system included on most harnesses. Please guys comfort cannot be the most important consideration but being able to stand in your suspension system until you can get help. Keep your phone in your pocket and someone who knows where you are and when you should be out. Your family needs you

Safety is definitely my main priority 100%, that being said when I'm up in the stand for hours on end I want to be as comfortable as I can. Not fully sure about the rock-climbing harness idea yet, but if it's just as safe and bit more comfortable I don't see an issue trying something new.

Not trying to be argumentative but you really should do some real studying. The treestand harness companies have been preaching for years how safe their harnesses are. Stop drinking their cool aid and think. You do not need a tension relief strap with a rock climbing harness due to how they are built. I won't try to explain it to you here. Just do a little studying and you will understand.

Being I hunt alone 99% of the time, self rescue is my only option. I’m thinking the roc style harness may not only be more comfortable, but my safer option. I do see guys attaching tree tether at different heights. Some go low and have lots of slack hanging and some go higher with the rope going up and through armpit. Curious which is better?

It depends . You don’t want too much slack. I generally have my tether about mid back height.
