Favorite 7mm RM factory round

Howdy.

I have a new 7mm rm. It's a Tikka action with a proof barrel chambered by my gunsmith. The rifle sits in a manner stock with the action bedded. I shoot suppressed.

I am used to how easy it is to get 6.5CM to shoot using Hornady rounds. So far, my groups are a bit wider, but I haven't done much work on it.

Elk is what this rifle was built for.

Eventually, I'll load for it.

But, in the meantime, what's your favorite big game factory loaded round for the 7mm RM.

I have only shot federal 160gr partitions through mine since I stocked up a few years back.

The 160 AB (both Federal loaded & Nosler loaded) have shot relatively poorly through my 7's. When the Hornady interlock 154 was cheap, I used that for positional shooting practice, but I wouldn't say it shot that well and I probably wouldn't use it hunting. I've used some other random factory stuff as well as some of the 'custom' loaded options, but Hornady 162 ELDX and Federal loaded Berger 168 have been the two that shoot the best out of my rifles.

I wish 162gr eld-x was shooting that well out of this rifle. Now, I'm not saying I'm not playing a role in it as I get used to a new rifle. I certainly could be and am impacting it. The question is, how much?

I think 600 yards will be the very outer limits. I'm more comfortable in the low 400's. This rifle has a proof carbon barrel with an 8.24 twist.

Yes last year killled two animals and hopefully more this year. First was a One shot kill on a cow elk at 505 yards. Double lung with a golf ball sized exit. She ran 20 yards and tumbled 20 yards. Dead in seconds. Second was a one shot kill on a mule deer buck at 200ish yards and he didn't go anywhere.

My stock Tikka T3 SL loves the Barnes TSX 160’s. Also shoots the factory Remington 150 grain Coreloks well. Would not group any 140’s I tried.

I have a 7rm tikka, 1/2" all day... Federal with Barnes TSX 160gr...but they don't make them anymore Federal and Barnes stopped dating...the Trophy Bonded didn't shoot as well for my rifle. The Nosler ET shot pretty good, so did the Barnes with Barnes TXS

Great group. I just ordered an xbolt speed lr and if I can find them want to try the 175eldx . Have quite a few 160accubonds on hand to start with until I can get my hand on some though.

I can say it has done very well on game since I started using about 17 yrs ago..recent mushroom in my bull at 42 yds…have shot bulls as close as 5 yds out to 575 with good results

@BLJ can’t say I know the answers to those questions…can say back when I needed a recommendation on a new bullet I inquired with Panhandleprecision and this was one of his recommendations…they shoot great in my gun and knock things down I can post a ton of critters I have shot who would say…Impact HARD and Velocity done me in
