For anyone over 6' tall the tripod series you should be looking at is the Sirui N series. They make 2 sizes and they come in Aluminum or Carbon Fiber.
The 1000 series max height before the head is factored in is 62.2" and folds to 18.3" and the 2000 series max height is 64" before the head is factored in and folds to 19.3".
The max load on the 1000 series is 26.4 Lbs and on the 2000 series is 33 Lbs.

This is available with the VA5 fluid head as a kit with great savings before the 15 and 15

I just got the Sirui VA-5 head from Joel. Its a really nice fluid head. Much better then the Vanguard I was running.

Thoughts on the best ball head? I alternate between a Nikon ED50 scope and Meostar 10x42s. I'd prefer Arca swiss compatible with separate panoramic control. My current Vanguard pan head is just too bulky/heavy.

Big thanks to the guys at Camera Land. I called about a new tripod and head and they set me up with a Promaster 525C (at 6'4" I needed the height to stand and glass) and a Sirui VA-5.

I can't say enough about the VA-5. To me, it's much smoother than a ball head. Fantastic for the price, especially with this deal.
