I went for a training hike Saturday. I was using OnX and my phone was pretty low after only a few hours.

What tricks do folks use to extend their battery life when using onX??

What he said 👆, i still use an older iphone 12 mini and it will easily last 2-3 days on airplane mode while only using onX offline maps with tracker on the entire day and bluetooth'd to my inReach.

Dimming your screen saves power. It can get annoying, but low power mode can also help. Hopefully obvious, but turning off WiFi (in addition to Bluetooth if you’re not using it) helps.

Check it only as necessary. Don't have the tracker running all day while you hike just so it draws a pretty line for you and tells you how far you walked. Basically, use it as little as possible.

download maps and airplane mode. Unless it is a survival situation (navigating during a blizzard or no head lap at night?) there is ZERO reason to have it running all day or for hours.

I carry an anker battery pack with 27k mah. I will run out of food and need resupply before I run out of battery.

Create a focus mode on your phone called whatever you want it to be, “hunting”, “hiking”, etc.

Choose only the apps and/or contacts etc. you’d want notifications from.

Turn “dim Lock Screen” on.

Turn “hide notification badges” on.

Turn on this focus mode whenever you’re trying to conserve battery. This plus frequent airplane mode has helped a bunch with my battery life. I was having issues with all the different app notifications popping up all the time and my backlight/background photo draining battery life.
