I’ve been shooting iron will wides this year. I’ve taken two deer with them so far. Blood trails were good enough but not 2” mechanical good. Both deer went less than 60yds and expired.

Muzzy 3 blades are the only broadhead I've ever used. First buck I shot walked about 10 yards and fell over. The one I shot this weekend ran about 200 or so yards. That's the furthest I've had one go. Blood trail wasn't awesome, but it was good enough that I never had to grid search or anything. Every deer I've shot has been found dead pretty quickly. So far I haven't had a compelling reason to add a variable or add cost.

Edit to add: The shot was through the near side shoulder blade. Certainly not perfect placement. That said, there was a perfect three blade cut through the bone. The arrow deflected inside the body and angled way back almost to the far side hip. I found the back half of the arrow about 60 yards from where I shot him, and the blood trail got quite a bit heavier and easier to follow.

I was a firm believer in rage (and still am) for years but was not getting the penetration I was looking for. I switched to a single bevel fixed blade for the last two years and will not be switching back to a mechanical.

Rage 2 blade sc daughter shot it about 18yds from the ground he went 30yds hard and flipped one of the most violent deer deaths I've seen. I've shot mostly rage since they came out I like the original one the best. I have put them thro both shoulder blades at 20 yds arrow pass all the way thro. I've done the same with fixed blades the shoulder pic was a 3blade g5 fixed blade.

I've shot a couple that I was able to watch run over 200yds before falling double lung with a rage and had some jump right at shot double lung then walk few yds and fall over.
This buck I put rage thro shoulder 16yds from a tree pretty high angle because of hill came out other side in arm pit he went about 70yds hard run flipped in the creek and died.

This one was pretty crazy shot. It was daughter's first one out of a tree stand it was a rage out of a cross bow the deer reacted hard it was 25yd shot but after the gun season so they are pretty jumpy. The arrow never punctured the cavity It hit the top of shoulder on other side wasn't a hole thro other sideof hide.
The deer went 150yds layed down 7 times walked up on him still alive ended up backing out in total prob gave him 4 hours went back and he was dead about 30yds from where we backed out no vitals hit just bled to death

Rage extreme. 46 yards quartering away. Won't be shooting a fixed again anytime soon. Blood trail was incredible.

I'm leaning towards using annihilators XLs myself. Now I need to take a second look at Kudu Point...

Hello! This post was not meant for guys to argue about which is better. I am simply gathering data. That being said, if you have a picture of an entry/exit wound of your deer, please give me details on the broad head spec, location of the shot, how much blood, how far did the deer run? Whatever you’d like to share pertaining to the effectiveness of the broadhead. Thank you!

I use both- some expandibles are trustworthy. I like fixed blades when I’m in good shooting form. Late season I don’t get out to practice as much as I’d like, form degrades, bulky clothes and cold muscles… I go for the expandibles because they are much more forgiving.

What I have noticed, the very best tournament archers that are avid hunters seem to usually shoot expandible broadheads🤔. Think Levi, gillingham, Dudley. These guys should be able to shoot fixed blades better than any of us, yet they chose expandibles. These guys can also tune a bow- so that argument is out. I think they just demand accuracy and have confidence in knowing that they aren’t likely to center punch the shoulder socket. If you don’t hit that thing, a good expandible will get the job done better than a fixed.
I like exodus, iron wills for compound, and vpa- for the recurve. I carry two sevr 1.5” in the quiver at all times. Pics are going to look about the same as everyone else’s, so I won’t belabor the point.

Had one bad experience on a buck with mechanical. Lucky for me it was a follow up shot.

Switched to Kudu single bevels after that and no looking back. They fly great and have destroyed everything I have shot with them.

Everything has a purpose. Iv shot both but I prefer fixed. This buck was shot with vpa 150 single bevel. Went in front shoulder came out rear quarter.
Ran 20 and piled up.

I haven't hunted deer with these but I do hunt turkey with Swacker 3in expandable. And man that leaves a nasty hole. These are two different turkeys I have shot with them.

I tried fixed blade broadheads two different years and I was honestly very unimpressed with the blood trails and amount of damage both years. Very small entries and exits. Penetration was great but I get great penetration with mechanicals as well. In my opinion I feel as if mechanicals are a little more forgiving, especially if the shot is a little back from the vitals. Most of my mechanical shot deer result in blood trails that even Hellen Keller could follow.
