After you render your bear fat down for lard, you are of course, left with cracklins. Cracklins make a great snack unto themselves with a little salt, pepper and hot sauce, but you can also bring a bag of them along on your hunts and add them to your dehydrated meals for a little extra fat, calories and some crunchy, fat-nuggets mixed in with whatever meals you're eating.

Don’t know how bear cracklings would work but a handful of pork cracklins do wonders for homemade ham and bean soup or get some uncured hogs shanks cook them off bone them then grind everything except the bones and gristle grind the bear cracklings add to the liquer fron cooking the shanks bring it all to a boil add a mix of corn meal and flour salt and a good bit of black pepper stir continuously while boiling perhaps a half hour or more remove from heat ladle into loaf pans and let cool sliced about 1/2 in. Thick and fried nice and brown on each side with a bit of king syrup makes for a hearty breakfast on a cold morning, look up recipes for home made ponhause or scrapple
