European Mount Ideas

Hello,

I have done both European mounts and shoulder mounts for deer and elk. I grew up in Illinois and everyone got their big deer shoulder mounted. I then moved to Colorado and found most people did skull mounts. I have done both, but my skull mounts are always smaller deer that I don't want to do a full shoulder mount. Typically just boiled and whitened, nothing fancy and usually kept out in the barn. However, I recently harvested my largest whitetail to date in November. It's a 170 class whitetail and I am contemplating the idea of doing a skull mount instead of a shoulder mount. If I go this route I want it to be something nice and not just a skull I throw up on a shelf in my barn. I have a whiskey barrel I could use as a pedestal, or I would be open to a wall mount.

I'm seeking any ideas, preferably, with photos to use as a reference.

That's a pretty big whitetail.. I'd shoulder mount that. If you want a euro, get a skull hooker and put it on the wall somewhere

Search the webz for some ideas (pintrest stuff comes up a lot). Style I tend to like more is if a habitat is included. Usually a "picture frame" style with some grass, barbed wire, drift wood, etc.

I've got one buck on a skull hooker now, it's nice but I'm looking for something a little more unique

How about a cool piece of wood to mount it on that you work yourself? Personally not a fan of the dipped or coated skulls. The packout mounts are super cool and a bit cheaper if you're looking for something between a euro and a shoulder.

Reminds me, I need to find a container and an aquarium heater ASAP.

I have posted these before, but this is how I have hung my most recent two.

I use a 90° hardware bracket.
