Hello,
I have done both European mounts and shoulder mounts for deer and elk. I grew up in Illinois and everyone got their big deer shoulder mounted. I then moved to Colorado and found most people did skull mounts. I have done both, but my skull mounts are always smaller deer that I don't want to do a full shoulder mount. Typically just boiled and whitened, nothing fancy and usually kept out in the barn. However, I recently harvested my largest whitetail to date in November. It's a 170 class whitetail and I am contemplating the idea of doing a skull mount instead of a shoulder mount. If I go this route I want it to be something nice and not just a skull I throw up on a shelf in my barn. I have a whiskey barrel I could use as a pedestal, or I would be open to a wall mount.
I'm seeking any ideas, preferably, with photos to use as a reference.
