Tomorrow is the last day of rifle season in Montana. I have spent 31 days searching for an elk on horseback. I have averaged 10-12miles per day in my search.

Weather has not been cooperating. A lot of the days were on bare ground. I have seen cows twice. I've been close to a couple three bulls but things just didn't work out. I think I am just on the edge of burnout. It's been a tough season.

I have certainly enjoyed my time with my son, my wife and my hunting partner of 50 years. With a little luck there will be a number years yet in the future. Hope all you folks were more successful than I.

Damn that’s a long hunt. I’m just a peasant with no pack animals, but I usually can tell I’m getting sloppy in the woods around days 6-10 as I tucker out.
