Its most likely a place a bull elk bedded. If there were many old rubs along with the new, it would be a good area to set up on. In the end, it tells me a bull may be bedded there in the near future, or the next year and if and when I stroll by it, I may set up on it.
Elk making sounds to me that I can hone in on are more important than a few rubs.
I usually mark those spots on my onX maps app on my phone. If things are slow later in the day, I'll sometimes head back to that area and just sit and chill until dark. Rubs mean he is actively using the area. Old rubs and new rubs tell you it's a hot spot for that bull or others. A good place to frequent, looking for those bulls. Especially early in the morning.
