Durable gaiters?

I tried a cheap pair of gaiters this past fall and loved them until they fell apart on day 3. What recommendations do you have on a bombproof gaiter. I’m not too concerned with noise or weight. Just wanting something to hold up to brush busting in NW Washington. I’m leaning towards the OR crocodiles but not sure if I should get the expeditions, regular crocodiles or something else. Thanks for the help!

My Kuiu Yukons have done well for keeping water and debris out. However, they have provided zero protection against cactus and other poking brush in AZ and Mexico. My Kryptek Petras have been bombproof in AZ and Mexico. My only complaint with the Kryptek ones are the lack of breathability.

I have a pair of OR crocs that have been used for everything from snowshoeing to ice climbing. IMO they are great. Heavy. Noisy. Probably overkill for anything but heavy snow.

I bought a pair of kuiu Yukons and really like them. They are lighter and quieter than the crocs. Handle rain and snow well for me.

I have a set of Sitka thunderheads. They have a fleece face and are super quiet. Only wore them once so far and they worked fine but not enough use to be sure.

I really like the fl bramblers. They are holding up very well with around 100 days in the field so far. They don't require me to lace a buckle on top like so many others. I have had good luck with OR and mountain hardware although those are not quiet. I have some kennetreks that are quiet, but are a pain to set up compared to the bramblers.

I have had a pair of the OR low gaiters for close to 10 years can't ask for much more than that.

I am trying out the Badlands gaiters this year for any wet or late season colder weather. They were a great deal when they had their half off sale.

I've been using the Kuiu gators for the past 3 seasons. They have been great. In all fairness I've never used gaiters before then and got them in a lot of Kuiu camo I purchased. now I can't imagine not using them. I even use them in the spring to keep burrs and mud off my pants.

So far I've only tried OR because my calves didn't fit in the First Lite or Kennetrek.

Went through two pairs of kuiu Yukon in two years. Switched to hillsound, seem to hold up so far. I've heard good things about the new sitka ones. I've thought about trying OR as well

I flat out abused my Kuiu's last year and they are still alive and well enough for this year. Zero complaints

Did you try the bramblers? I have some big ass calves, I used to weigh a ton. The bramblers go above my cow muscle. The mtn hardware is a bit taller yet and fit my calf in even the heaviest clothing.

Yeah I couldn't get them to fit if I wanted to wear pants...which is highly recommended by several of my hunting partners. I lost 100lbs but calves didn't get smaller. Once I got the OR I quit looking but thanks for the tip I need some that are a bit lighter and quieter for archery season and summer hikes.

I have the OR crocodile expeditions. I have used and abused them for at least 10 seasons of upland hunting through some rough stuff. A buddy if mine gave them to me and he had worn them for 3-4 years before that. I bought a pair of the standard ones this year, and I would definitely recommend the expeditions. They are just better built particularly where the straps attach to the gaiter.

Thanks for the input guys. I’ll look closer at the Kuiu. I should’ve added I’ve got dainty lady calves haha. Any experience on one running smaller than the other? I might just have to try a few until I get the right fit.

I use OR crocodiles. I lion hunt all winter in snow and these have been by far the best for me. Kuiu do not seal well for me and let in snow. Sitka gaiters are a joke. Some actually have a thin elastic band with a 1990s toggle at the end to keep it strapped below your knee...which work great as long as you bend down and tighten each leg every 3 steps.
