I ran my duplex for the first time with any real distance yesterday. I had about 30lbs. in it for 5-6 miles. I had some cramping in the middle of my back just below my shoulder blades. What am I doing wrong?

Its hard to say what caused it since it was cramping. If you pull the lifter straps too tight then it can push on you back too much causing extra strain.

Do you have torso length correct? Load lifter straps over tightened? Sure a Kifaru pro will be along soon.

I wondered if I had things to tight because I don't really have an awful lot of experience adjusting them. I just kinda cranked everything down cause I thought everything but the deltas and sternum strap is supposed to be tight?

Give me a call tomorrow and I can walk you through everything and get you set up. Sounds like just a few minor adjustment changes. We will get you setup for sure.

I didn't know if it was just a minor thing and didn't want to bother you, I know you're a busy fellow. Not sure id I'll have reception tomorrow but if not then I'll call Tuesday

it took me a few days to learn to dial my rig in, the proper adjustments to the belt, load lifters and delta straps completely changed everything once Aron got me squared away over the phone. I proceeded to punish myself with a week long alpine trip fishing above 10,000' with a 75lb load. No problems. We stopped climbing when the snow got deep and the lakes were frozen over. I'm 54, have a bad back (from 6 motorcycle spills) and pound a keyboard 75-90hrs a week. If I can do it, so can you.

Pretty sure you're a masochist

A lot of people make the mistake of OVER TIGHTENING the loadlifters and delta straps which can cause discomfort. Me being one of them when I first started using Kifaru. Once you fine tune it you will love it.

I don't think over tightening the LL's will do much of anything to cause pain, it just transfers weight. The DS's can certainly be over tightened but that would cause hip pain. I would say you have torso length not adjusted correctly or you may not be used to the large lumber pad Kifaru uses. It does take time to get used to the large lumbar pad.

It's probably just cramping. If you are just getting used to a load, cramping is very probable. With any pack. You are tweaking muscles unfamiliar with the new activity.

Yup. Just because it's an 800 dollar pack doesn't mean there's still not a load on your back

Probably how the weight and tension is positioned. I know that on the duplex frame if I over tighten the ll it can cause discomfort between my shoulder blades. Properly adjusted everything is just fine. The bikini is different though I can crank on its ll and never cause any of the shoulder blade pain it will just start putting to much pressure on the fronts of the shoulder. Play around with it watch some fitting videos. You will get it dialed in.

The only thing I can think of are the two buckles that are positioned behind the shoulder harness connecting the load lifters to the frame and straps. If suspension is cranked down for a shorter torso they can really come into play as those buckles are situated right between your shoulder blades.

This actually happened on the DT1 that was delivered from the factory and was improperly sized Once I adjusted the suspension to fit my longer torso they were high enough up that they were out of the way. If you think this may be it, and if you hadn't called Joe (who will undoubtedly be able to help with this) I will be glad to take pics of the buckles to show you what I am talking about.
