So i just got my DXT set up and shooting decent. It took me three weeks to find a cam for my draw length...... I have been shooting it for about two weeks now. Me and the wife were out shooting the bag tonight and a buddy of mine who doesn't shoot archery came over. I was adjusting the sight on my wifes bow when behind me i hear a whooosshhhh......

Instantly i new what it was. I ran over and sure as SCHIT the string is all wrapped around the cam and there is a huge break in the cam!!! I wish i could have seen him pick up my bow as i would have stopped him there but my back was turned and i had no clue.

I was so pissed i just grabbed the bow and walked away!!! I have no clue what to do now. I obviously need to find strings and a cam for it. I can see where the string has been compromised due to the sharp edges of where the cam broke. What pisses me off even more is he just shrugged it off and said "just send me the bill". He has now real idea of what he just did. But i know he cant afford it....

What next? How have some of you guys handled this?

Im worried that the cam and string isn't the only damage. Should i be looking for new limbs and axles?

That stinks, man. If your buddy has a homeowners policy, then he probably has Damage To Property Of Others coverage and/or liability coverage that would take care of the repair or replacement cost. That doesn't make it any less aggravating though.

oh man!! i have no real advice. just wanted to chime in to tell you Sorry this happened to you.

ask the friend.."face or gut?"

i would call Mathews ASAAP. they are a super sympathetic group. BTW, my brother dry fired his SBXT, and the limbs survived., he had a cracked nock and right when he fired, he saw the arrow fall off the string. i think the cam bent as well. if you are the original owner, i bet the company helps you a lot.

Yeah I wish I was the original owner. But sadly I got it used.... I'm so frustrated right now. I was so stoked to be shooting. The weather was getting nicer by the day.

The worst part about it was it took me over 4 weeks to find the 28.5 cam that she wore. Who knows how long it will take me now.

What's the best way to look for damaged limbs are bent axles?

I'd still give Matthews a call and see what they'll charge to service it. My fear would be a compromised limb those cracks could be very hard to see and still cause a failure

As long as the cam is not bent you can file the sharp edges out and not affect the performance of the bow in any way. It wont harm the strings either after doing so.

Its pretty hard to bend the axles on a bow. Its hardened steel.

You can inspect the limbs. Pay close attention at the "V". You can use a cotton ball and rub it on the limbs. If there is a splinter or crack it will usually catch on the cotton.

Id have the strings replaced just for peace of mind.

If he can afford it I would send him a bill for a new bow. Who knows really what other type of damage it sustained. Limb issues axles, bushings, heck there is even a chance the riser could have been torqued.

^^^^

I didn't want to hear that. He's going to have a hard enough time replacing the cam and string financially, let alone the bow! I think I'm getting the shaft on this one.

Sounds like you need a good pro shop. Have been in this boat and glad I took to pro shop in pooler, ga. Cause after the string cables were replaced the bottom limb had issues and needed replaced. Would not want to be first to draw after the work is done, exploding bows are nasty bad

That sucks and I know the feeling. In 07 I accidently dry fired my brand new Hoyt. I have shot bows my whole life and I know better but the string slipped and now i will never draw a bow back that is not knocked up with an arrow.. any way it threw my peep out of the string and shattered it when it hit the wall. I took it to my pro shop and they inspected it. Said no big deal put a new peep in it and I have been shooting it since then with zero problems.

Man that blows. I just got my first bow and I'm super paranoid about letting anybody handle it. First thing I tell them is not to dry fire it. I'd definitely get it checked out by Matthews and send him a bill for the repairs. If he won't/can't pay, I'd tell him to get bent. I also recommend the nut punch.
