What would be the Best or Easiest border crossing to go thru driving from Michigan to Newfoundland? Will be taking the ferry at North Sydney. Thanks in advance for the help

I have a cabin in eastern Maine by the St. Stephen, NB crossing (Calais, Maine). Very small crossing and easy to get through. Not sure where you are in MI, but I'm guessing you'd either come through Detroit or Sarnia? I guess it depends on if you want to spend your whole time driving through Canada or through the Eastern US. Both routes seem to be around the same time.

The price for fuel in Canada is much higher than the states so we will probably stay in the US as long as possible. Looks like a couple hours longer drive but probably a big cost savings. I heard Calais was probably the best crossing I just wanted to make sure. Is there only one port / bridge of entry there?

Looks like there are 3 now. We always drive by the Milltown crossing as you pass right by it on the way into town and I never recall seeing any lines. I believe some of them allow trucks and others don't. Some are also open 24/7, others not. See link below. Good luck!

I've been through Calais a couple times now (2023 and 2024) and it's a quick/ easy Port of Entry. Canada Customs is quick with their checks. Then it's about 7-8 hours to the ferry at NS. On the return it only takes a few minutes to declare your harvest import with Customs. I drive from Michigan (lower) and stay in the US until I hit Calais. I could cross at Detroit into Canada and back into the US but I'm carrying firearms I don't want the extra hassles or delays with Customs there.

Is that crossing 24/7? I'm planning on driving that way coming from Ohio

I'm going from Troy OH and crossing through Maine at St Stephens NB second week of September

If you click on my link 2 posts up, it give you the hours of each of the crossings. At least 1 of them is 24/7 if I recall.

Ah thank you, I read right past the link without seeing it. So looks like there are 3 crossings, 2 are 24/7 so shouldn't be an issue going either direction. Thanks.
