Does anyone make a 5.7x28 bolt rifle? I am looking to replace my 22WMR. After trading off my WMR I am in the market for a better than 22lr but not a 223 rifle to shoot 250 yard and in for varmints. Just finished a Pdog hunt and had a blast shooting them with a 10/22. However I HOT footed to many of them and wished I had a quicker kill. The WMR would do that. I also found the WMR to not be accurate enough for my needs. I don’t want to spend $1000 on a 22lr that is accurate enough and a 17HMR doesn’t inspire confidence in a pistol.

Thinking dual set up. The S&W 5.7 for backpack pistol and a bolt rifle for little critters/fun. Trying to minimize caliber creep as I have to many already.

I have been unable to google up a 5.7 bolt rifle in the US. Curious is someone like CZ or Anshutz Europe makes one?

Suggestions are appreciated.

I always thought it would be fun in a super compact bolt gun...but I have a .17 hornet and carry 9mm.

Zero desire for a 5.7 handgun.

I know a few companies "developed" some but they never hit the market.

Savage tried for a while but could never get it to work in a bolt gun for some reason.

You could probably do an AR setup.

I’ve looked at the AR’s and I just don’t think they would be accurate enough. I may have to look at a custom barrel on a CZ varmint. Curious on the bolt face size. I was hoping CZ Europe made one.

CZ 527 would have been nice. Feeding out the magazine would have been the fun part to figure out.

I have seen in the past some old Remington 581’s modified for center fire cartridges.

I guess Savage did release a few in the Walking Varminter.

TC Contender carbine setup would be fun.

Shilen makes a barrel for it. I believe the issue will be an action. The bolt face is uncommon from what I see.

I have the ruger 5.7 carbine and it is freaking awesome. One of my favorite fun guns. Definitely accurate enough for varmints out to 250 yards.

I have the Stowaway and it's a neat little gun - be prepared to spend 30 minutes cleaning up the trigger pull. I'm loading the 60 gr TMK to 2350 fps with Lil Gun. Daughter killed a 4.5-year-old buck with it last year; he made it 10 yards. Mine hasn't shown 250-yd varmint-level accuracy yet (around 3 MOA) though. You can also buy a 9mm barrel and bolt for the same gun.

I have often thought about how nice it would be to have something like that.

I would look at starting with a CZ 527 or Howa mini, then putting on a custom barrel for it. I also wonder if a CZ rimfire bolt could be altered by a competent smith to work for it.

Another possibility would be to find one of the old Spanish Destroyer Carbines (they were 9mm Largo or something like that) and having that rebarrelled. I wish I had picked one of those up 30 years ago when they were selling them in the Shotgun News. I don’t know the exact dimensions of the respective cartridges.

It's not a bolt gun, but you can get a T/C Contender barrel from Match Grade Machine in 5.7. I have a carbine barrel in 20 Vartarg, and it is a great little varmint gun.
