DIY tripod mount for cell phone camera/video

I randomly came across this video where a guy creates a tripod mount for his cell phone from a paper clip. I figure I'm always carrying a phone in the mountains and usually bring a tripod for my glass. The cell phone cameras are getting so good that I don't really need a digital camera. I'm often hunting solo and would set a timer on a compact digital camera to take self photos of me with my game. So I thought this was a cool idea...or at least a nice backup.
