Nothing too crazy. I don’t have pics from every step of the process but it was simple and fun.
Steps were:
- trace Tikka stock profile onto scrap walnut
- rough cut out spacer on bandsaw leaving a little extra margin
- mark screw hole locations by pressing recoil pad with screws onto walnut
- drill holes a bit larger than screws
- mark which side of the spacer is the back and front so you don’t lose track
- mount spacer and recoil pad to stock to check length (I used 2” screws shown in the attached image for a 1” spacer)
- wrap the stock and recoil pad in tape to protect them during filling and sanding (note, the tape will pull off spray paint as you can see in my picture)
- file down recoil pad close to flush then sand to flush (I think I did 80, 120, 220, 400)
- remove the spacer, apply Tung oil, wait a few hours, wipe excess
- mount spacer and enjoy!
Thinking about trying a walnut cheek riser next.
