Hey everyone, wanted to post up my quilt that I made. Fun project!

All supplies where purchased from ripstop by the roll.

1.9 ripstop nylon A-tacs FG (3yards) $23.85
1.6 HyperD ripstop nylon OD uncallendered (3yards) $16.50
5oz primaloft climashield (3yards) $32.85
Mara70 thread (free)
Gutted paracord for tie downs (I had this)

Total cost $73.20 plus shipping. So like $85$

Design intent size was 60x93" for the Quilt. With seam allowances it's a little smaller.

Huge, huge, huge recommendation for this project is a walking foot for your machine. Made the thick stack up of materials easy to workout with.

First I measured out the atacs to length. Then over layed it onto the OD. Marked and cut.

Then did the same thing with climashield

Then I stretched out the fabrics on the floor. Put the good sides together so when you turn blanket inside out the good sides are showing.

Then lay the climashield on top.

Next clip or pin around the perimeter. Put masking/painters tape down on the climashield so the walking foot does not get caught in the insulation. Make sure you dirty up the tape a little bit so it doesn't let the tape adhere very well to the insulation. Makes getting it off easier. Stick the tape to your shirt or carpet or something.

Start sewing around the perimeter. Leave 12-20" so you turn the Quilt inside out. Once you've sewn all the way around pull off the tape and trim off any extra material. I left about a 1/2" inch.

Then turn it inside out and admire it!

I then sewed around the whole perimeter again to add some strentgh to the seams.

Once it's all sewn up tight, I added little pieces of paracord to the edges so I could tie the Quilt together to make a sleeping bag or to stretch it out, or stake it down, what ever you have in mind!

After the tie downs you should be all set! Still need to make a stuff sack for it and not sure how much it weighs yet! To be determined. So far I love it!

I've made a few quilts in this fashion and you can generally get real close to the finished weight by just doing the math based upon the weight of the materials, and add an ounce or so for thread.

I'm guessing this quilt is around 38oz. How'd I do Ghilie?

You guys are going to turn this into a guessing competition. I had a similar number when I calculated it a few weeks ago. I need to sew up a stuff sack so I can get it on a scale to weigh it! Sorry I don't have weight yet :(

Did you use the same process? Anything different about yours?

Mine is 1.1 ripstop in and out and 3.6 climashield. Much smaller also, about 54x74 with some taper at the bottom. I put velcro in the seam to make a foot box if needed and a draw cord for the same purpose. Also sewed some grosgrain into the seams for straps under the pad. It is 16 oz with stuff sack. Will be a nice summer backpacking and scouting setup

i made the same thing last year out of similar material, same insulation, i used my quilt in idaho down to mid 20's, i was wearing a base layered socks and a beanie
but never once got cold
id say if in shorts the 5oz apex will be good to 25-30 degrees for most people
you cant beat the price of either

looks great
well done

I am looking to build something very similar this winter. I want a smaller quilt to use for insulation on long glassing sits or when sitting in the blind. I want a nice packable blanket to use on the kids if they come with me so not for sleeping purposes. I am curious as to why you chose to go with the Climashield insulation over Hyperdry down? I know down would require quilting or baffling but in my experience it is far better for warmth to packability/weight in the end. Just curious as to your reasoning to go synthetic.
