My dad just got an XDM 10mm and wanted a shoulder holster, so I told him I’d make one for him and save him some money. The holster was about $60 and the webbing and buckles were about $20. It is comfortable and carries well. It took some time but was a fun winter project.

Quality looks good and you did a nice job, but this link shows exactly why I will never have leather near my gun. Your design doesn't really look prone to this issue, but I just won't ever trust anything other than kydex.

Kydex. Also, since I dont live in a combat zone I don’t carry one in the chamber. I figure the likelihood of an accident like this is much higher than that of needing my weapon instantly. YMMV

If you honestly believe you are more likely to shoot yourself or someone else by accident than to use it defensively I would suggest you don't carry a self defense weapon.

it sounds like you’re suggesting that I’m incompetent because I don’t carry a live round in the chamber?

In my 64 years, I have witnessed personally the accidental discharge of two firearms. At the range where I shoot, there are probably 25-30 bullet holes in the roof. I Have never witnessed a situation where I or someone else would have died without a cocked And locked firearm in my hand.

If you leave out cops, prison guards, and other people who are regularly exposed to criminal situations, I’m pretty sure that the number of people who accidentally shoot themselves or someone else is way higher than the number of people who purposefully shoot an attacker. Just saying…

You may be competent, I couldn't say one way or the other. From your own words i can say that you have no confidence in your own ability to not shoot yourself or someone else. If that is the case, for the sake of the everyone else, I'm suggesting you don't carry.

I have 100% confidence that when I pull my weapon from my holster that the only things that are going to get holes in them are things that I intend to.

And yeah, there are lot of idiots who shouldn't be carrying weapons as well.

Never play the maybe I have time to chamber a round before I am dead. Proper holster, proper training and situational awareness is the way to go, if you are un-comfortable carryin with one in the chamber get the training you need. Be aware,be ready and always rehearse the mind set when this happens this is what I am going to do, and pray it never comes to that.

This holster used a kydex pancake holster attached to leather, so retention is consistent and there shouldn't be any issues with the leather wearing and potentially causing safety concerns. I wore it and liked it so much I made another one for my G20.
