What I would like to know being new to TX, is what the hell do I do when it's 100+ degrees outside? I guess I'll need to get a gym membership.

You can do whatever you want when its 100 degrees outside... its when its 100 degrees in the shade you have to figure out something to do in the 80 degree water.

Anyone going to the RMEF fundraising shoot Feb 20 at Elm Forks? Was thinking about it myself but don't have a group. Thinking it would be a good chance to meet other western hunters and maybe a Rokslider.

Heading to Cedar Hill State Park on Joe Pool this Sunday with the wife - according to Google Topo, should be a good hike depending on what I can talk her in to doing. Will report back afterwards.

Kyle - Wish I could make it this year but will be out of town - hopefully make another one. I know DSC has a few events coming up for everything from cigars and drinks to teaching youth how to get outside and enjoy it more which could be a good deal.

Went back out to EMP this morning. Gate opened at 6:45.Took the East trail this time. The wind was pretty brisk but not to bad.
Saw quite a few more deer, one bruiser buck about a mile in.
Also met a veteran that is going to do the Pacific Crest trail in April with an organization called Warriorhike.org.
About 5 miles today. Feeling goooood :)
I'm really liking this place, glad my daughter told me about it..........Allen

Hit the Cedar Ridge Preserve today and got about 4 miles in. There are 2 trails that are surprisingly "rugged" with a lot of elevation change. Definitely worth checking out for any prep for mtn hunts. Not to be confused with it actually preparing you, but y'all know what I mean. Actually reminded me of some forest trailheads I've been in.

I tried hiking a bit of cedar ridge last spring, but most trails were closed because of all the rain. Nice to hear it's worth the trip!

On another note, I was finding it pretty difficult to find a place to sling arrows beyond 20 yards up until a week ago. Westlake sports center in mesquite has a 100 yard range that is $5 for a day pass. I've only been there Sunday around lunch time. Planning on going sometime Saturday if anyone wants to join.

Thanks for that range info - I'd be there Saturday but already committed to a midday clay shoot. I am going to hit up Cedar Hill or Cedar Ridge early Saturday (7-8) with my pack if anyone is interested in meeting up there.

JTHeaney, Rexa and crew---- I'm relocating to DFW this fall from Kentucky. Most likely after I finished the whitetail season here. Would love to link up when that happens and get the low down on hunting in Texas and also linking up for future western hunts.

I'm building points in AZ,CO,UT,WY and ME(moose, don't ask hahaha). Looking to expand into NM and NV.

Also-- Hunted OK a ton when I was stationed there and know of some decent whitetail draw hunts.

TxTrapper, I've been using Sansom Park on the northeast side of Lake Worth. It has quite a few trails and some good elevation changes. It's mostly single track compared to Eagle Mountain Park and can be more challenging. I've been training for the TTH Challenge at Cinnamon Creek this coming weekend.

There are plenty of trails around that are entertaining enough to get some miles in. Sansom Park in Fort Worth, Dinosaur Valley, North Shore trail at Grapevine Lake, etc. Obviously, no mountains, however the local mountain biking organization is very proactive regarding trail development.

Don't let the heat bother you. You can do whatever you'd like well over 100*, just take plenty of water and get after it.

I should be back to the states and Texas around mid August next year. Im hopefully going to give bow hunting a try if all goes well. I would be willing to meet some people for a hike or workout. I'll be in the Corinth/Denton area when im back.

I'm in Stephenville, if y'all are willing to drive to Glen Rose, there's some good trails in dinosaur valley state park.
