Anyone around DFW, more on the Dallas side? Been on a couple NM and MT archery elk hunts and I'm hooked. Would like to find a group of guys around here trying for DIY hunts.

I'm down in Houston. Planning on heading to CO for OTC archery in 2016 for my first time. Tough to find people that want to go (also that I can trust to get shiz done) and the wife isn't thrilled at the idea of me going alone. If you're thinking of CO let me know and maybe we can get together for a cheap hog hunt half way between us to see if it would work out. Travis

I'd like to grow the group I can hunt with, this year I am hoping to get some good draws in either WYO or CO.

Josh and Trapper - looking for good places to get in shape for season - best I have found from central Dallas is up/down the levees on the Trinity or hitting stadium steps. Any other recs? May have a goat hunt to get ready for this year.

In Midland TX. Done DIY archery solo near Steamboat Colorado for a few years, looking to change it up.

That about sums up my experience also.
We have some good trails at lake Grapevine and Eagle Mountain but I rarely make it over there. It's a time thing.

FNG here, but I'm in Rowlett. Did rifle in WY last fall, looking to do the DIY for bow or rifle every fall from here on out.

There's some trails that trail runners use out by Joe Pool Lake, they aren't bad. Several 1-3 mile loops. Not mountain terrain by any means but it's TX.

Honestly, outdoor training areas around here are pretty sparse in my experience. I use the stairs in our office building. 10 stories up....10 stories down. Have also done White Rock lake trail. 9 miles around it.

Like the city but I HATE the plains..

Anytime you guys would like to a meet and greet, I'm game..nice to finally have some DFW Roksliders.

Well I made it over to "Eagle Mountain Park".
It is a very nice trail park. Nice trails, nice scenery and it does have some topography to it for around here. Nothing drastic bit nice.
I went on the west trail or right, and if you go about a mile the trail makes a loop. I made three loops going both ways and it was nice. For a total close to 5 miles. I arrived at 8am and nobody was there. The temp was 36* with little to no wind with clear high pressure skies.
I saw 20 deer, two bucks. One spindly little 6 and a nice hvy dark horned buck with a funky right antler. Lots of rubs if you look around.
Varmint tracks everywhere. Very wooded. It was a very nice walk and I think I will be making it a regular hike. It's only about 18 miles from my house so not bad. On the way out i did see another woman with a pack on so thought it was nice.
Any questions let me know. I took some pics but they just didn't turn out, I used my phone, bummer.

Went back Sat morning and got there right before 7am and only saw a couple cars. Walked out about 9:30 and the place was packed, not a parking spot anywhere.. Of course it was a beautiful day so I don't blame anyone. But the trail I was on still wasn't crowded at all.
Saw to big bucks right at the first bridge with barely enough light to see them, and a few more does along the trail. Had a good hike. About 6 1/2 miles.
Later.......
