Picked up a pair of the Light Hikers from REI, fit great really comfortable but seem a little thin for winter use. I was wondering what weight you guys use for winter hunting.
I've got a few pairs of the full cushion hunting socks that are pretty good for year round use. Really depends on the temperatures that you're hunting in, and the boots that you're wearing. If I'm in the treestand when it's -30F, I won't be wearing the darn tough. The over-the-calf merino hunting socks seem to be pretty good for all around use though.
I've worn the 1460's for several years. Unless the weather is extreme either way, they seem to work quite well. They are the Hunt Boot Sock Cushion. I don't wear a liner. I've wore some uninsulated boots in some pretty chilly weather without issues, but I wasn't standing around. As much as you don't want to get cold, you don't want to get your feet hot and sweaty as that will be a recipe for cold feet.
