Im also running the 1403. Other than color, here are the only differences I can gather:

1403 Hiker - 64% Merino Wool, 33% Nylon, 3% Lycra® Spandex
2011 Hunter - 67% Merino Wool, 29% Nylon, 4% Lycra® Spandex

Hunter is listed as $1 more MSRP on darntough.com.

I have a couple pairs of the 1403s as well and I love them. I wore them last year in Utah on an Elk hunt and they were awesome. A little light for tree stand hunting but great if you're moving.

I should have included the fact that I wear mine every day all day. I no longer own a pair of cotton socks.

I like the 1403 for everyday or hiking, but also run the 1811 (over the calf) when it is colder or want more protection.

I had emailed then about some specific questions I had and the response I got was very helpful. This is a cut and paste from the email I got back from them.

All our socks are knit the same using 168 needle knitting machines which give a higher stitch density of around 1441 stitches per square inch. All of our socks are knit the same way regardless of the category they are in so the heels are knit the same way with extra reinforcement and they are equally durable.

We carry 6 weights of socks. From lightest to heaviest, they are: ultra-light, light, light cushion, cushion, full cushion and extra cushion. We do not have a temperature rating but this range gives you an idea of our lightest to heaviest. Hope this all helps you.

The Men’s Hunting Boot Sock Cushion (1460) has an extra 1.25” stretch in the calf and it is cushioned on the bottom and up the shin. The Hike/Trek Via Ferrata Boot Sock Cushion (1926) and Hiker Boot Sock Cushion (1403) are cushioned on the bottom and up the shin and different colors but same contents. Hope this all helps you.

^this. I have made it my mission to wear a pair out and haven't in three years. I wear them year round as well. I'm an evangelical darn tough fanboy. I like the 1403 the most but they are all good.
