I'm running a sawtooth and small box stove. Would I get more heat with the 18" cylinder stove? I know it would be easier to get wood or the cylinder. ???.....has anyone had a chance to use both for comparison.

I had a med box stove and 18" cylinder. Weight difference alone is worth changing in my case, both will keep sawtooth toasty, the cylinder burns a little longer and I will probably never cook on the stove anyways.

I'm interested in this too. I like the box, as it seems to break down smaller?
But the cylinder is so light.
I'm putting together an order for this spring for a 4 man tipi and the 18" cyl stove
- I don't see why I cant cook on the cyl stove, just need to balance/center the pan :)

I have not noticed more heat as you can get either hot enough to run you out if you want to. The larger one gives you an area to put larger pieces, which gives you a longer burn, which doesn't require as much feeding. Either will work, the larger one is just easier.

i have tried many stoves and i can say than a cylinder stove will give you more heat source than a box stove(more airtight),youll put longer logs(wood) in it of course VS a small box stove, less work to do.Don't forget,in your backpack you have to find a place for this 18'' long body...thats what i hate. Now i am using a medium rihno box stove in my 4 man tipi and a 12'' cylinder stove in my other shelters...i am not scare to use the 12'' in my 4 man at all,i know it will work well.

I just strapped my cylinder stove on the outside of the pack, just have to be careful when you drop your pack.

I am really torn now

I feel the cyl is better in every way but durability and space in pack?
I am looking at the Kifaru as it seems easier than some of the other stoves to set up.
That's just my opinion so get butt hurt.
I watched the vids on 3 stoves (cyl) and the box and the box stove looked be easier and more durable?

I'm in the same boat, very torn between the cylinder and the box. I want a stove that will last a while and be lightweight but the cylinder seems pretty efficient and the weight of it is a huge temptation!

i got a sawtooth and the seekoutside titanium medium box stove and im really happy with it for the short time i have used it. very easy assembly and very light and i have no doubt its going to last a long time. not quite as light as the cylinder stoves but its the best of both worlds. the door on the seekoutside stuff is huge too. now of course its not 18" deep though. for me i liked to have the option to cook on my stove to save weight in some situations. if i go solo, i wont carry the weight of a butane stove.

i know its not specifically what your asking so sorry if im wasting your time but from what i experienced so far, i have gotten 30minutes to an hour on big thick wood and it got HOT in the sawtooth.that was with the intake control almost closed and at an elevation of 6300. im using a small saw though, just breaking stuff i can see an advantage to the 18" body.

I watched the videos of assembly by guys who knew what theyw ere doing (Patrick, Aron and some others with the SO types. All of them seemed to cut and edit the video around the "flimsiness" parts.

It is a trade of for weight I am willing to pay.
I will be getting the cylinder 18" for ease of wood.
I'm above 10,000 and need more heat than most. I will be in a smaller 4 man tipi from Kifaru so it will heat quickly, but endurance is what I want. I can cook on a round stove in a small enough pan so that's not a deal breaker. I'm not cooking for 20 guys
lol

I'm a solo guy and didn't want to haul the butane when I already had a stove in the pack.

My mind is made up on the cylinder stove 18".
I like Reapers door mod from his video on his- much larger mouth to feed the stove.
Some other good mods to make door even more air tight too.

Kifaru 18" Cylinder stove in the cart .
Now just making sure I want the 4 man tipi and not the 6

I'm 5-8
Looking at the 4 man specs I should be able to stand in it to,
Perhaps only in the center but at half the weight of the 6 I just cant justify it as a solo hunter

Just to give credit at the right person...the larger door from my video is from Brennen(Liteoutdoors),all stoves will come with this door now and i can say it is awesome.

If you are solo it will be a good set-up but i suggest you a 12" or a box stove for the TUT...looking all the pictures around and i even wanted one but after looking at the specs and put pegs and paracord on the grass to see the size with pole and stove, sleeping pads that thing is small and not much room and only one door at a corner, mean the other guy have to crawl over everything to find the zipper. Its my opinion.I have a Seekoutside 4 man and its bigger than the tut and a use a box stove now because the 18" cylinder was taking to much place when we were 2 man.
