Hey there. Do any of you guys know if CWD has made it to Vermont?
I’ve heard rumors of Blue Tongue nearby as well.
Thanks

Thanks that was helpful.Occurrence | Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) | Prion Disease | CDC
Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a prion disease that affects North American cervids (hoofed ruminant mammals, with males characteristically having antlers).www.cdc.gov
Hope this helps.
I’ve heard of it in New York. Vermont is making you butcher the deer out there and not bring any bones from the deer to Vermont. That means no heads from a buck either. Just the antlers. Isn’t CWD transmitted through the bone marrow?Western PA. I was not aware of that NY outbreak the map shows. In eastern PA I have started changing my butchering habits (boning neck, etc.) because it is only a matter of time IMO.
If you click on "Transmission" on the left hand side of the page I previously linked it should answer most of your questions. Thanks that was helpful.

It is not transmitted through bone marrow but through feces, urine and saliva. Deer couldn't transmit it to each other if bone marrow was the problem. Thanks that was helpful.

The prions accumulate in the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) to do their damage but testing is done on specific lymph nodes on the animal (retropharyngeal).
