Cutting silpoly

I have used a soldering iron with a chisel shaped point. Works like a champ.

Good to hear. Did the edges come out clean with no fraying? If I can avoid spending $70 on a hot knife that would be awesome. I am considering attaching a havalon blade to a soldering iron too.

Yep. Im not sure the havalon blade will work but it's worth a shot. The issue is that I believe soldering iron tips are made of copper (for heat conductivity) and then coated in something else to make them more durable. You would need a welded or soldered joint for good heat transfer, and even then I dont feel like it will transfer heat well to the tip. You should be able to buy tips specifically designed cutting fabric

I use regular sewing scissors and a rotary cutter for cutting silpoly. I don't normally leave raw edges anywhere, but I haven't noticed excessive fraying compared with my hot knife.
