What is the best custom action for hunting?

Much like barrels there is no, one, best but rather multiple that are considered "best". BAT, Defiance, Kelbly just to name a few and there are many others.

Look at it a different way, as said above there are lots of good actions.
The PRS competition is pretty dirty when shooting. One of the most popular actions used is Lone Peak and the shooters there are able to use any action and Lone Peak actions are still the most desirable.

My gunsmith prefers Defiance so that’s what I roll with now. Very pleased.

Not to add another, lots of great choices above. I'd add Impact Actions into the mix, I have two rifles built on their actions and they have been excellent. Extremely tight tolerances that allow prefit barrels. Action also runs silky smooth even when very dirty/gritty. Another popular and trusted PRS action.

I’ve been super impressed with the Pierce titanium action on my last build. Build quality and machining tolerances are second to none.

You really can't go wrong with any of the popular brands. I've heard good things about Impact and Lone Peak. I personally use a Mausingfield action for my hunting rifle since I want it overbuilt and able to function in the worst circumstances.

I agree with the Impact action, I have one on my favorite rifle (PRS) 6BRA, it is awesome. I also have a ARC nucleus. But I still believe the Lone Peak is a step up.
The Lone Peak will probably be my next build action if I choose to build another rifle.
