Somehow I managed to select the wrong archery season when applying for AZ archery. I thought I selected the Sept hunt, but I must have accidentally picked the Nov hunt, which is after archery, rifle and muzzleloader seasons. So much for all my years of points. Has anyone hunted or familiar with this area come Nov? Seems like a tough tough hunt for archery. I can only imagine they're in heavy timber after two months of hunters.

Hunt dates are 11/4 - 11/17, Units 1, 2B and 2C

I'm of no help as far as AZ hunts go, but I know in CO you can have your points restored, can you do that in AZ? The only drawback here is you don't get your money back. Might be worth a call to ask them about it.

It's been quite a few years since I've been in there, but it is absolutely beautiful country in there and some monster bulls if you can find them.

I talked with the AZ DFG yesterday and they said there's nothing I can do. I read in Hunting Fool if you purchased the "Point Guard" during the draw then you're allowed to return a tag once, but I can't say I ever saw that option.

Huntin Fool is mistaken, again. Tag Return will be an option when the membership portion of the Portal is implemented. That is months away.

There were some problems where the computer was linking to another hunt, irrespective to what the applicant actually picked but printed receipts got those fixed. They will be in the canyons and there are several in that unit.

Unit 1 is one of the most sought after units in the state.

At this point make the most of it and go spot and stalk you a good bull.

Have some fun you are still hunting AZ!

I did the same thing a few years ago in unit 10. Blew 12 points on it. But sucked it up and went hunting. Never saw an elk for 6 days or so. Finally glassed up a few Bulls. This guy gave me a shot.

Very tough hunting but can be done. Good luck. Sorry I have no information on unit 1. But seems to me it's the same. Glass.

That's a great tag still. Get out and hunt it!

Well done! ...especially after not seeing anything for so many days. I'll give it a shot this year and hope for the same.

Its been a few years since I moved away from AZ but I grew up hunting Unit 1 and killed a lot of elk in both early and late seasons. There a plenty of elk for you to hunt in November. Weather will dictate where the elk are but if you spend some time scouting, you stand a very good chance of killing an elk.

I don't know about AZ, but in Colorado if you do that. You can cancel the tag if it's before the draw.

AZ doesn't allow you to give back a tag. I've decided to just go for it. The bulls will be there, just won't be nearly as easy to find. If anyone has pointers or experience in the area all feedback is welcome.

Bughalli,

Sorry I didn't get your PM sooner, but I just got back with you. Let me know if you have any other questions.
