Has anyone experimented with an under quilt for a cot? I own the helinox insulated and frankly it’s not warm enough below freezing. I think a down underquilt would work perfectly well below freezing. Anyone tried?

Makes sense to me,I'd just use the down underquilt I've got for my hammock or just another sleeping bag

I’m trying to avoid using an inflatable pad. They have a tendency to shoot across the tent when you shift your weight wrong. Especially on a cot. The foam pads don’t insulate enough.

On my cot, I use one or two sleeping pads for insulation.

At a minimum, I typically use a closed cell foam pad. It does not slide off nearly as easily as an inflatable air pad.

I also use an older self-inflating thermarest. The face material is more slippery than closed cell foam but less than most air pads.

I don't think an underquilt would work very well.

I under inflate my Xtherm a little bit when using it on my Thermarest cot. Works great and doesn’t slip off as easily as the side rails help keep both of us centered.

A quilt will compress under you giving less insulation- down especially. Syn quilt will do a little…but a waffle pad or two is more efficient.

I use a waffle matt and a foam pad on a cot since with a cot its a base camp so weight is not a factor.

I think he was talking about hanging a quilt under the sleeping surface so it would not compress, like a hammock underquilt.
