Looking to replace my Alaskan Hikers this year. I like 5 years I've gotten from the Hikers and thought I might try a lighter version with Gore Tex.

Personal Experience with the

Cabela's "Perfekt™" 7" Hikers

Cabela's "Perfekt™" Light Hikers

Cabela's Air Active Backpacker Boots

Cabela's Air Active Mid Day Hikers

Don't know the difference between the perfekt and the ultra light hunters but I picked up a pair of the ultralight hunters and was soured on the Mendle brand. The ultralights were poorly constructed, made in Viet Nam and I returned them after a couple weeks when the liner detatched from the top of the footbox. I know some Mendle boots are made in europe but I would varify the place of mfg. before spending a few hundred bucks on them.

I have a pair of the Perfekt Hunters and they are made in Germany. I would think that the Perfekt Hikers would be made in Germany also.

That was what the Web page said. Perfekt and AK hikers from GERMANY. Perfekt Light and Active Air IMPORTED.

Your experience with the hunters?

Do you think that the height of the boot affects heel slip?

Cabelas has a number of Meindl "exclusives" that had to meet a certain price point (like the Denalis) so "cuts" were made in materials and labor. Just know that the genuine Meindl is different from the Cabelas Meindl which is why some models are not available anywhere else. I'm waiting for a pair of the new short-top Dovres to arrive from AJ Brooks.

Rocky,
I have the perfekt light hikers.. They are made in Italy.. Have the 10" perfekt hunter and they are made in Germany.. I really like them and have no complaints thus far.. Pretty solid boots and don't break the bank..

Rocky,
The Perfekt Hunters fit me well and I don't get any heel slip. I have only used them for 1 week in real mountains this past October. I have had them a little over a year and they had about 15 miles on them before I used them mule deer hunting. They are pretty warm and can get hot if you are hiking hard. Also, they are a tad on the heavy side. Overall I like them.

Been wearing the 7 and 10 inch perfekt hikers for 4 plus seasons. Bad ankles here so tend to where the 10 more than the 7's. Both have held up well, are very comfortable and 10's provide good support. I will be buying pair when done with them. No complaints here.

I didn't care for the quality of the perfect compared to the Alaska. If I were looking for a more flexible lighter boot than my Alaskans I would likly go with lowa or another reputable brand. In the last few years cabelas Meindl has been rolling out what look and feel like cheaper boots to me. Just my opinion based on trying them on and looking in store so take it for what it's worth.

That said I think the Alaskas are up there in quality with any of the big names. I'm still waiting for mine to fall apart and thus far they still are kicking.

Have had AK Hunters and Perfekt Hunters. Noticibly better quality with the AK Hunters. My other complaint with the Perfekts is they squeaked and squeaked no matter what kind and how much spooge I spooged on them. Returned them.
