communicating to partners while calling

I just saw Curt Wells explain how he communicates with partners. He explained how 1 cow chirp means lets move on. If partners don't respond the set continues. How do you guys handel it?? Any stories on messing things up due to no plan like this?

Nope. I hunt archery elk solo. I screw it up plenty by myself

Always have a plan, if you don't that is how you will mess things up.

We use turkey calls. Just a simple short series of yelps. No answer, stay put. Yelps back pack it up and move on. I wouldn't use an elk sound. A single chirp would be a good way to stop an elk, would hate to have my partner come walking over as if I were trying to stop one. Too many variables in calling situations to use an actual elk sound as the que IMO.

We learned this one the hard way.

We were after a herd bull.....I was in front and my brother in-law was calling for me.

The gig was up and the bull had pushed further up the ridge, so I whistled down below to my brother in-law to get him to come up.

What I didn't realize is that (2) nice satellites had circled below and one was about to step into an opening for a shot.

When I whistled they froze, then spooked and I ruined a great shot opportunity for him.

Not always does the man in front get the opportunity, so good communication is a must.

I also like turkey yelps.

We found a good use for a hoochie mama! We each carry one and when it is time to move, one squeezes it three times quickly. If the other reponsds then it is time to go. No response, then sit tight.

My brothers and I use our cow calls to communicate. 3 consecutive identical chirps says I'm ready to move on if I get the same reply we move, if silence then we sit tight. Its worked really well for us
