Greetings everyone,

Thanks for allowing me to be a part of the boards! I’ve searched the boards for years and finally decided to become an official member. It only seems right to start sharing information and participating in a community that has helped me along the way.

As the title suggests, I’m a retired combat veteran with ample time on my hands. We all know that can be a blessing or a curse. And I find being in the outdoors, connecting with the land, and hunting with a good friend are about all a man needs to take stock of his life.

I’ve been a hunter and fisherman my entire life and have really become obsessed with bear hunting the last few years. After reading countless posts, Escouting until my eyes hurt, and taking a leap of faith. I decided to go out west and try my hand and the big leagues of Rocky Mountain bear hunting. So I loaded up three barrels, 1,500lb bait, and headed to Idaho. Without getting into the nitty gritty of location specifics. I was able to kill my first black bear last year. A lot of that success was because of this forum and I would like to say thank you to everyone who has contributed over the years.

A few pictures from the last few years of roaming Idaho. Again, thanks for having me and I look forward to swapping stories.

Congratulations that’s no small feat for an out of state diy
Thank you, Fitz! It was the experience of a lifetime and one I truly treasure.

I have found sweat equity to be the great equalizer in everything I do. Ask lots of questions when the time is right, READ as much as possible, study topo maps with an idea of where my target animal lives, and when in doubt, break it down to “one more step.”

Or maybe I watched the movie “ The Edge” too much when I was a kid. 😂😂
