I am looking for a hunting partner that has 24 or more elk points in Colorado. My hunting partners do not have enough points and I would like to cash them in this fall during the first rifle season. I have hunted elk since '89, don't smoke and exercise daily so I can stay in decent shape to hunt the high country. anyone interested in teaming up?

A NR with 24 PPs should be able to draw just about any unit they want to.
And some very good ones

2016 Pre-Draw Stats show there were only 70 Colorado Residents with 24 PPs or more and 288 Non Res with 24 PPs or more

Your selection of people is pretty slim

Good Luck on your hunt!

288 non residents waited 24 years that's serious point creep. Good luck with your partner search that's a hell of a time investment

I don't have the points and will likely never try and accumulate that, but I'd love to see a unit the requires that and see if it changes my mind. Long of the short, if you need company and the area looks great I may be interested.

What if someone here drew a cow tag to match your bull tag, and joined your hunt? You would have a spotter, caller, packer, etc. I'd consider joining you for that.

Not looking to be your partner but I just went along with my father in-law in a 20 point unit, 24 for non resident. If still deciding on a unit I would discuss it in a p.m.

Awesome- how about posting your hunt here for those of us who will never hunt an area like that.
I enjoy my Colorado 1st season hunts every year- I hunt units that I can always draw-mostly 751/75 and 23 and 24 (12) I've had great weather, some bugling still. I cant imagine what an area in Colorado would be like with little or no pressure. I was able to kill a monster in my book-in 2010- 316 Net-332 Gross. I will most likely never best that in Colorado, and since I don't go any other place- that will be my best. In an area that takes 24 years, what size bull would you pass and try to target? Good Luck

Add me to the list if you need someone to help pack out or scout. I live in Gj so some units are not to bad of a drive and I have a lot of days off in the summer.

How come you guys don't make offers like this for someone with 2 points?

Because a 2 point hunt might as well be an OTC hunt. A 24 point hunt is a true trophy herd bull type hunt that would be a lot more fun.......if it was during archery season. Working those kinds of bulls is a whole different ball game......a really fun one. Even a really good ML hunt would be similar.

I'd be willing to give up my bow season to be able to work those kinds of bulls for someone as it is an absolute blast.

What if the guy with 2 points gets a trophy bull? You'd miss out. :)

Well, that would be wonderful for him, I'm sure. I don't know many 2 point units (especially for NR's) where you're working 350"+ bulls every day. But a 24 point hunt isn't just about success......it's about the low pressure and number of high quality bulls on that type of hunt. Everybody gets lucky every now and then, but finding 350" bulls in a 2-point unit would be more likely to be a crapshoot than a guarantee.

There are other units I'd also be willing to help out as well (that I know well), but even they aren't 2-point units. I hunted a 2-point unit this year (for residents), and quite frankly.....it was pretty disappointing. And I shot a 6x6 in there, but it was still disappointing overall.

70R and 288NR??? That's a LOT of patient people!

Since you are a NR, if you note the area you're looking to hunt, that would add more residents to your potential pool since Residents don't require as many points. Just a thought.
