I enjoy shooting stuff with centerfires at a variety of distances. But I have to admit there is something to hunting deer and antelope on the plains with traditional rig. Spotted this buck entering a grass patch to bed down in mid morning. Did a 1 mile stalk, finished up with crawling 120 yards into 80 yards from him. Grunted so he would raise his head up and shot him in his bed. He never got up. 105 grains of Swiss ffg, .570 roundball, .015 patch, cci primer and my custom lefty Hawken.

Very nice. Good shooting and great mass on that buck. How much does your rifle weigh and what’s the barrel length and profile? I’m getting a custom lefty 58 cal built and my final decision is barrel length. I’d like to keep the gun at around 9lbs. I’m going with a straight profile 1” across the flats, and thinking 33” barrel length.

That one is 1" x 33.25" and is an old Green River Rifle Works barrel. If I remember right, it comes in at 9 pounds with great balance.

He's a beauty! A 570 gr ball must have like a truck hitting him.
