My hunting partner and I's 16 yo sons are both in high school football - which makes it hard to take them elk hunting. This year we're going to put them in for late season cow tags as their football seasons should be over by mid/late November. I made an initial pass of late season cow success rates, from which I have a starting point of units 2,3,7,8,10,11,13,22,30,50, and 61. I'll try and reach a DOW biologist for a bit of help and do some further research on the DOW site, but wanted to reach out and see if anyone had experience they'd share with any of these units and would specifically recommend (or specifically NOT) recommend any of them for late season cow. One concern I have when I see late season cow tags with high success is how many elk are being harvested are on private land vs. public. I'd prefer to stay on public, or at least not pay too much of a trespass fee for these kids to hunt elk. They each have 2 points, and I don't mind using them if I need to. We're in the Broomfield/Longmont areas respectively, so all things considered some of the closer areas would win a tie, all other aspects being equal.

Much appreciate any advice/knowledge you're willing to share.
