seems to me like they got pretty quiet after the smokepoles started goin off. they were buglin good for me monday then heard a few shots a little later an havent gotten a peep from them since

Heard one bull bugling this morning. To windy this evening to hear anything.

Spent three nights up near timberline. Bugling all night but only a couple during daylight hours.
Two nights ago actually had bulls on the south side of the tent and the west side bugling back and forth.
This morning this bull was above timberline without cows, and was not bugling.

I hunted on Thursday 9/13. Elk were quiet in the early morning. I bugled at about 7am and suddenly had 4-5 going crazy all around me. I guess they just needed a jump start. I got a 5x5 around 8am. I was hunting alone and it took me nearly all day to pack him out. Once the elk started bugling, they were vocal for the rest of the day. My cousin hunted on Friday afternoon and Saturday (9/14-15). He said they were going crazy on both days. He got a 5x5 in the afternoon. It was a good archery season, and the bulls seemed more vocal than usual.
