Colorado Elk Population?

Wondering how the Elk herds have done this winter in Colorado. I have heard that populations are down due to the harsh snowfalls. Any truth to this?? This marks my 20th year to Bow hunt Colorado and I know for sure the human population has flourished.

I believe it all depends what areas in Colorado...Some got hit harder than others.

Do a google search, about Colorado elk populations after the most recent winter. It's all out there.

Over the last 20+ yrs CPW has actively reduced the elk population from a high around 325,000 elk to a goal of 270,000 elk.

You should have noticed a decline in elk with that management plan in place. Weather may have a very localized effect but decades of high cow harvests have made a much bigger difference

Sounds like they got hit hard around Steamboat Springs where I go. Looks like CPW has made some changes for this year

Bummer. Hunting with a buddy north of Steamboat in October.
