I live down in Durango and struck out with my archery tag this season. If there is anyone in the Carbondale/Glenwood springs area that might be willing to answer a few questions I would like to pick your brain a little about a cow tag and some access in the area via PM or phone. If anyone knows the area and is willing to help shoot me a PM. Thanks in advance.

"Beta" must be a Durango thing. Poser lives there too and he seems to like using that word.

The only time I've ever heard or used it was in Greek letters and in finance as a measure of risk, but can't figure out how either would apply here.

Yes beta is a widely used climbing/mountaineering term. Also fairly common in biking and hiking but nothing to do with Durango. It applies here as advice or guidance with the particular area I am asking about.

Yep. If people would step out of their tiny comfort bubble they would know this.

I've been a skier since the late 70's........I've never heard it even once in regards to skiing. That must be a very tiny beta bubble. I guess advice, info, and intel was too obvious and too easy to understand, so someone had to start using Greek. LOL.

I also remember Beta in regards to some other form of VHS tapes........that never took off.

I should have specified backcountry skiing. Taking a trip to Breck once a year to slide around on an iced over groomer doesn't really count as skiing.

If you have some beta on how successfully navigate loading that stupid magic carpet chair lift at Breck, I’d be open to hearing it.

If it were just a durango thing, then half the state of Texas would have picked it up by now. “Yo, cuz, you got the beta on how to hunt that corn feeder from the shooting house?”

It’s mountain sport terminology as it relates to features: couloirs, buttresses, arete, etc. since hunting elk in mountainous terrain often involves navigating and negotiating mountain features, it’s an entirely sensible word to use in mountain hunting lexicon since mountain related terminology has long since been established.

Or you know, just live somewhere there is climbing or skiing, etc.

Ouch.

And it's a blind. Not a shooting house. Those are in Europe. :ROFLMAO:

Man maybe I should have added a trigger warning to the title. Had no idea anyone had so much opinion on the word.
