CO Unit 551 4th Rifle Elk - Gunnison Drainage

My 14 year old son drew a 4th season tag. We are up in Salt Lake and will go down 4 days before the hunt to scout. Could anyone point me to an area to start scouting when we arrive? I have read that if it is a good snow year look toward the lower BLM land. If it is not a good snow year.... Any advice would be welcome. We are fit and can hike anywhere but wouldn't mind camping at the truck. Season is Nov 20-24. Thanks!
