CO snowstorm up high this weekend, up to 10-20" in some places

Berthoud pass and hwy 103 might get 8", Loveland pass maybe a foot of snow. The ski weather forcasters often put out more accurate info than the local weather newsfolk. I am just sharing for those not CO residents that are either in the mountains and see this or visiting then so you can be aware. It seems we might have tracking snow by the weekend, I might need to get a bit eastern in my hunt methods then (referencing the Benoits tracking deer), should be fun!

If you are out there and see this be prepared for the snowstorm this weekend up high and stay safe. You might even need to chain up if you don't have snow tires and you are driving up on a pass.

Steamboat and areas NW look to be getting the most snow if you look at various forecasts, I just linked to one of them.

Edit: forecast shows more snow now and an additional storm coming: https://unofficialnetworks.com/2024/09/20/chris-tomer-forecasts-10-20-inches/

Stoked for the tracking ops and can't wait for the snow season to get going too!

Bring out your long Johns boys and girls, oh and be prepared for some shenanigans with guys getting their rigs stuck, thanks for the heads up! In my experience that much snow will either trigger some wild rut feistas or shut them down for a couple of days! We are fixing to find out!

For all you muzzy fellas out there don’t forget to keep your powder dry!

I just watched this a few minutes ago. Definitely adding some more gear to my already loaded pack. The local forecast hasing no participation in it, but this forecasts is calling for 3 inches.

yea it can be an issue when people don't have snow tires on or don't have chains and such.
I'm trying to decide if i want to try and snowboard more than hunt this weekend, got a powsurfer and a rock board but one foot isn't really enough...but it's tempting.

But tracking deer in the snow is fun too.

Got some family hunting from a motorhome camp thankfully they’re coming home today because that thing won’t make it over two passes in the snow.

It won't stick on any of the roads and most will melt as it hits the ground so the for of snow will more likely be a couple inches of slush.

Snow tires and chains are a late October going in to November thing.

Chains are good in mud too
Truth.

I don't think this storm will amount to much... at least below 10,000'.

Looks like it'll dry out and warm up right after it blows through and stay that way into the foreseeable future.

That said, worth making sure folks out for archery/muzzy are prepared. A few shifts in the "model" and some local spots could get a decent blanket.

6" of fresh snow with a warm-up afterwards is ideal tracking. And the snow falling out of the trees from melt is a great sound cover.

Riding on maybe a foot of new snow with 0 base? That's East Coast desperation right there.

Forecast just went higher...

I live in CO but sometimes go out and do the silly just like all the people that try to ski at least once in every month of the year...its a CO thing.

We need it! This has been a late start which makes me think it’ll be a heavy long season

Day Weather is probably the best forecast for the West

Yes. It snowed quite a bit above 9,500 around Sept. 21st. I don't remember the exact day. Snow stuck around for about a week on the peaks.

I was camped at 11k near Alma and we had rain turn into snow starting around 3 in the afternoon on the 21st and continuing through the night. Maybe 3 inches or so that stuck, the ground was mostly too wet still from the afternoon showers.
