Darned if I did not luck into a 4th Colo moose tag. Idaho bull and Colo cow moose hunts same year. Gonna be fun!

Will try to avoid this sort of watery retrieveal this time in same unit hunted in 2015. It was 27 degrees that morning. Brrr.

Moose do have a bad habit of dying in frigid nut deep water

I’m going to ask what may be a stupid question. Logistically, how do you go about retrieving this moose at this point?

I’d tell you some good moose spots in 37/371, but I won’t. ;)
LO!!!. I did not draw that unit. I sure thought I put in there but did not as it turns out. Drew the same unit as the photo of me and my cow in NW Colo.

great question. Some hunters happened by with “mule tape”. stuff used to pull wires through conduit. looks kinda like a shoestrimg but 2000 pound strength. Right after that picture I lassoed the cow, the ran the tape 400 feet and around ball hitch of a guys truck and then tied to my bumper. eased my truck down the 2 track. and pulled her out of that pond and up the slope.

Super slick operation as it turned out!

Had those guys not had the mule tape and had there been no way to reach a vehicle with it, it would a been a nasty “butcher it in the water deal” solo. I could not have pulled it even to the water edge whole or solo.

First photo is the son of the guy who had the mule tape after I paid him $30 to wade out there and lasso the moose. You can see my moose bobbing out in the middle, arrow protruding. He failed and only made it halfway, so I did my own dirty work.

This second photo is me lassoing the cow. can see the mule tape in my hand and the arrow still sticking out of the moose

This photo shows the mule tape and the pissed off and love lorn bull that harrassed me for over an hour. Could not spook him even with pistol shots. cant quite see the cow, she kept submerging and bobbing back up.
